A map of Deerwood can be seen by clicking on the headline above. This version was updated in 2020, so it is a bit outdated at this point. When HOA funds allow, the map will be updated again.
Don't Forget: Construction/Renovation Approval Needed For Projects & Tree Removal
This is a reminder for all owners to be sure to obtain HOA approval before beginning any new construction or renovations, including exterior stain/paint colors. Read more about this important subject under "Rules" on this website. You can find the form to fill out under the "Documents" section on this site. In addition, please remember that owners are not permitted to cut down live trees on their property without permission from the HOA Board, as stated in the "Declarations of Restrictions of Deerwood Park." Only those trees in the way of the building site are allowed to be taken down, unless an owner is given permission by the board.
Chapel Renovations Made Possible by Homeowners
The community is blessed to have homeowners who offered to pay for much needed repairs on our 25-year-old chapel. Thank you Reynaldo & Barbara Ortega! The Ortegas made it possible for us to refresh the entry walkway, add new doors, replace rotted facia boards, add a roof over the side entry, and refurbish the hardwood floors. Take the time to stop by and see the heavenly enhancements.
An Eye for Beauty
Special thanks to homeowner Andy Brown for sharing outstanding photos of natural beauty around our community, like the sunset above. Also, the cover photo on the Home Page of this site was taken by Andy in June 2025. If you have any photos you'd like to share, please submit them to the HOA Board. Thank you!
Play Time!
A big thank you to homeowner Carmen Del Pino for volunteering to personally repaint the playground equipment! Looks fantastic and the community appreciates you!
Dynamic Duo
Cindy McCandless (L) and Cheryl Battiste have volunteered many hours to refurbish benches around the development with a coat of fresh paint. Great work ladies!
Life Can Be a Bear Sometimes
"When life hands you lemons, make lemonade," as the saying goes. Homeowners Ann and Andy Brown did just that, when they had to remove a large white pine that was encroaching onto their home in Deerwood. They took the opportunity to turn what was left of the tree trunk into a work of art. Working with a local carving artist, the homeowners were able to bring their vision to life. Nice job, Ann and Andy! And hats off to the artist for an incredibly cool statue.
Deerwood Looks Good on You
If you would like a Deerwood hat like the one Jessy Trujillo is wearing above, send a note to the Board. Although we are sold out at the moment, the Board will order more hats if there is enough interest.
Art Studio & Gallery Located Within Deerwood
Talented homeowner Jessy Trujillo operates an art studio and gallery in the community's old sales office, at 63 Old Barn Rd., with the assistance of his wife Maria. Jessy's oil-on-canvas paintings include everything from portraits to breathtaking landscapes. His "The Cowboy Way" collection is fascinating and a must-see! Next time you are in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by the Piney Creek Art Gallery.
Deerwood Park Gets its Own Look
Our community has been using various parts of the developer's business logo since its beginning in 2008. In an effort to give DWP its own look and "brand," an official logo for our community has been created. As funds permit, we will be upgrading signage to include the new logo and color scheme so that the community has a cleaner, more uniform image. (The word "Park" has been purposely dropped the from the logo, for simplicity and aesthetics of signage.)
Be Aware of WILDlife!
Black bears have been spotted in DWP over the past few years and, recently, two homeowners have mentioned seeing a "mountain lion" in the neighborhood. Please keep this in mind if you are out walking, especially if you are out from dusk to dawn, as this is when animals are most active.
This young black bear was seen walking down Mountain Ridge Road May 25, 2021, just before 9:00 p.m. Thank you Juan Arbreut for the photo!
Update! At least three other homeowners have caught glimpses of bear on or near their properties since this pic was posted, so be careful out there!
You will never want to leave.
Deerwood Park is a gated community located in Piney Creek, NC, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Life here is a little slower, a bit more peaceful, and refreshingly different from the norm.
